Based on a true story, these are the exciting events that occurred in the life of the smallest soldier – a hero of the Great Patriotic War, six-year-old Sergei Aleshkov. Sergei loses all of his relatives and is adopted by soldiers of the Red Army. The soldiers play games with Sergei in order to preserve his childhood, and he, in order to comply with this honorary title, becomes a true defender of the Motherland.

This feature film is based on the true story of a six-year-old boy, the Soviet Union’s youngest hero of World War II. Seryozha Aleshkov loses his family, is rescued by a Red Army regiment, and engages in battles. The little soldier is awarded the Military Merit Medal. Tragedy and love, danger and hope, the bitterness of separation, and the joy of belonging, are all intertwined in this wartime drama.
