Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991)

“Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves” is a 1991 adventure film directed by Kevin Reynolds. It stars Kevin Costner in the title role of Robin Hood, alongside Morgan Freeman, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, Christian Slater, Alan Rickman, and others. The film is a loose adaptation of the Robin Hood legend, portraying Robin as a nobleman who becomes an outlaw to fight against the oppressive rule of Prince John and the Sheriff of Nottingham in medieval England.

The film begins with Robin of Locksley returning to England after the Crusades, only to find his homeland under tyrannical rule. Disillusioned by the corruption and injustice he witnesses, he rallies a group of outlaws to steal from the rich and give to the poor. Throughout the movie, Robin’s character grapples with issues of social justice and loyalty, particularly in his romance with Maid Marian, played by Mastrantonio.

The film is notable for its dramatic score by composer Michael Kamen and features the theme song “(Everything I Do) I Do It for You,” performed by Bryan Adams, which became a massive hit. While it received mixed critical reviews, it was commercially successful and has since developed a cult following.
