The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (2001–2003)

In the peaceful, rural land of the Shire, a young hobbit named Frodo Baggins inherits a mysterious ring from his uncle, Bilbo Baggins. This is no ordinary ring—it is the One Ring, an ancient and powerful artifact created by the Dark Lord Sauron to dominate Middle-earth. Lost for centuries, the One Ring is now sought by Sauron, who needs it to regain his full strength and enslave the world.

Gandalf the Grey, a wise wizard, realizes the danger of the ring and instructs Frodo to leave the Shire. Along with his friends Samwise Gamgee, Merry, and Pippin, Frodo embarks on a perilous journey to the elven realm of Rivendell, where the fate of the ring will be decided.

At Rivendell, a council is held. It is decided that the ring must be destroyed by casting it into the fires of Mount Doom, where it was forged. A diverse group is formed to accompany Frodo on this quest—Aragorn, the rightful heir to the throne of Gondor; Legolas, an elven archer; Gimli, a proud dwarf; Boromir, a warrior of Gondor; and Frodo’s loyal companions. Together, they become the Fellowship of the Ring.

Their journey is fraught with danger, from the treacherous mountains of Caradhras to the dark, underground realm of Moria, where they face an ancient demon known as the Balrog. As the fellowship is tested, Boromir succumbs to the corrupting influence of the ring and tries to take it from Frodo. Realizing the immense burden he carries, Frodo decides to continue the journey alone, though Sam refuses to leave his side.

The Two Towers (2002)

With the fellowship broken, Frodo and Sam press on toward Mordor, guided by Gollum, a creature twisted by his long possession of the ring. Though untrustworthy, Gollum leads them through perilous lands in hopes of reclaiming the ring for himself.

Meanwhile, Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli pursue the Uruk-hai who have captured Merry and Pippin. Their pursuit leads them to Rohan, a kingdom under siege by Sauron’s ally, the corrupted wizard Saruman. Rohan’s king, Theoden, is freed from Saruman’s control by Gandalf, who has returned as Gandalf the White after his battle with the Balrog. Together, they prepare for war.
