Downrange
Downrange (2017), directed by Ryuhei Kitamura, is a nail-biting survival horror film that places its characters in a life-or-death situation on the open road. Known for its intense pacing and minimalist setting, the movie is a relentless thriller that keeps the audience on edge, using its tight premise to explore human survival instincts, fear, and isolation.
Plot Overview
The film follows a group of six college friends who are on a road trip across the United States. While driving through a desolate stretch of highway, their car gets a flat tire. As they attempt to change the tire, one of the friends, played by actress Kelly Connaire, notices that a sniper’s rifle is aimed directly at them from the distance. As soon as they become aware of the threat, they realize that they are being hunted by an unseen sniper perched somewhere in the mountains. The friends are trapped with no way to escape the rifle’s deadly aim.
From the moment the first shot is fired, the story becomes a cat-and-mouse game of survival. The characters are forced to rely on their wits and bravery as they attempt to outmaneuver the sniper, trying to stay alive in a scenario where they have no clear refuge. Trapped in an open field with no escape route and limited resources, the group members face the brutal reality of their situation as they struggle to survive.
