Alive (1993)
Alive (1993) is a harrowing and powerful survival drama directed by Frank Marshall, based on the true story of Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571, which crashed in the Andes Mountains in 1972. The film depicts the extraordinary ordeal of the surviving members of a rugby team who were stranded in the harsh, freezing conditions for over two months.
The film begins with the Uruguayan rugby team, their friends, and family members boarding Flight 571, bound for a match in Chile. However, a navigational error during a storm causes the plane to crash into a glacier high in the Andes. Many passengers die in the initial crash, and the survivors are faced with the daunting challenge of surviving in one of the most inhospitable environments on Earth. They endure freezing temperatures, avalanches, and dwindling food supplies. As their hopes of rescue fade, they are forced to make an agonizing decision: to consume the flesh of the deceased passengers to survive. Alive chronicles their desperate struggle, the difficult moral and ethical dilemmas they face, and their eventual rescue after 72 days.
