The New Mutants (2020)

Trailer:

The New Mutants is a dark and suspenseful twist on the superhero genre, blending horror with action in a unique X-Men spinoff. Directed by Josh Boone, the film follows five young mutants who are held in a mysterious and isolated psychiatric facility, where they are told they are being monitored for their own safety. But as their fears start to manifest in terrifying ways, they begin to question the true purpose of their captivity.

The story centers on Dani Moonstar (Blu Hunt), a Native American teenager who survives a mysterious disaster that wipes out her entire reservation. She wakes up in a seemingly abandoned hospital, only to learn she is trapped there alongside four other mutants: Rahne Sinclair (Maisie Williams), a Scottish girl with the ability to transform into a wolf; Illyana Rasputin (Anya Taylor-Joy), a Russian sorceress with teleportation powers and a deadly sword; Sam Guthrie (Charlie Heaton), a troubled Southern boy who can blast himself through the air at high speeds; and Roberto da Costa (Henry Zaga), a wealthy Brazilian who can manipulate solar energy.

Dr. Reyes (Alice Braga), the facility’s sole caretaker, claims they are being trained to control their powers before joining the X-Men. But as disturbing visions and horrifying creatures begin to haunt them, the group realizes that something sinister is at play. Their worst nightmares come to life, and they must confront their darkest fears—especially Dani, who seems to be at the center of the supernatural events. As the facility turns into a nightmarish prison, the mutants band together to fight for their survival and uncover the truth behind their captivity.

Blending psychological horror with superhero action, The New Mutants offers a fresh, eerie take on the X-Men universe, where the real enemy may not be a supervillain, but the demons lurking within.
