Early Beginnings in South Africa

Elon Reeve Musk was born on June 28, 1971, in Pretoria, South Africa’s administrative capital. Born to a South African father and a Canadian mother, Maye Musk, he grew up in a country undergoing significant political transformation during the final years of apartheid. Musk is of British and Pennsylvania Dutch ancestry, a heritage that would later influence his global outlook.

As a child, Musk displayed an early affinity for technology and entrepreneurship. By the age of 12, he had already created and sold the computer code for a video game, showing the first glimpses of his innovative mindset. However, his childhood wasn’t without challenges.
