The Resort is a tropical horror film that follows four friends who travel to a remote Hawaiian island to explore an abandoned resort rumored to be haunted by a vengeful spirit known as the Half-Faced Girl. What starts as a fun, ghost-hunting adventure soon turns into a fight for survival.
The film leans heavily into atmosphere and setting. The lush, isolated island is both beautiful and unsettling — a stark contrast that gives the movie its eerie tone. The resort itself, left in ruins, creates a strong sense of abandonment and dread.
However, while the premise is intriguing, the execution struggles. The first half is slow-paced, focusing more on the group’s dynamic and travel rather than building horror tension. When the horror finally kicks in, it offers a few decent scares but feels rushed and underdeveloped.
Visually, the movie has some stylish moments, and the cinematography captures the haunting beauty of the island well. That said, the plot lacks depth, and the characters are thinly written, making it harder for viewers to emotionally invest in their fate.
