Jack the Giant Slayer (2013)

In the kingdom of Cloister, a young farm boy named Jack (Nicholas Hoult) dreams of adventure, though his life is humble and mundane. His only source of excitement is the tales his father once told him about the giants who lived high above in the skies, separated from the human world by a magical barrier.

Meanwhile, the kingdom’s beautiful princess, Isabelle (Eleanor Tomlinson), longs for a life beyond the palace walls, tired of being sheltered from the world by her father, King Brahmwell (Ian McShane). Her upcoming arranged marriage to the ambitious and power-hungry nobleman Roderick (Stanley Tucci) only adds to her desire for freedom.

One day, Jack visits a local market and encounters a monk who is desperate to escape Roderick’s soldiers. The monk entrusts Jack with a bag of strange beans, warning him never to let them get wet. In return, Jack’s horse is taken as payment. When Jack returns home, his uncle scolds him for bringing worthless beans instead of money, and in frustration, they are cast aside.

That night, a violent storm strikes, and one of the beans gets wet. To Jack’s astonishment, an enormous beanstalk grows from his house, shooting up into the clouds. Princess Isabelle, who had snuck out of the castle to explore the world, had sought refuge in Jack’s home, only to be swept up with the beanstalk into the sky.

The next day, Jack, determined to rescue Isabelle, joins a group of the king’s men led by the brave Elmont (Ewan McGregor), along with Roderick and his sinister servant, Wicke (Ewen Bremner). Together, they ascend the beanstalk, unaware that what awaits them above is a world of danger.
