Sea Fever (2020) is a tense, slow-burn sci-fi horror film set aboard a remote fishing trawler. The story follows Siobhán, a socially awkward marine biology student who reluctantly joins the crew to study their catch patterns. The crew, a tight-knit and superstitious group, is initially wary of her presence, but their focus soon shifts when strange occurrences begin to unfold.

While at sea, the trawler encounters a mysterious and bioluminescent creature that latches onto the hull, excreting a gelatinous substance. Soon, the crew discovers that the creature has infected their water supply, introducing a deadly parasitic organism. As members of the crew start exhibiting bizarre symptoms, paranoia and fear spread like wildfire. Siobhán’s scientific expertise becomes their only hope as she tries to identify and contain the threat.

The film masterfully builds tension as the crew is forced to confront the terrifying reality: not everyone will survive, and those infected pose a grave danger to the rest. Stranded in the vast, unforgiving ocean, they must make impossible decisions to prevent the parasite from spreading beyond the boat.

Blending claustrophobic atmosphere, body horror, and ecological themes, Sea Fever explores the fragility of human life in the face of nature’s unknown and unforgiving power. It’s a chilling reminder of humanity’s vulnerability when confronting the mysteries of the deep.
