Gladiator” is the tragic story of Maximus Decimus Meridius (Russell Crowe), a brave and loyal Roman general.

After his army wins the war to save the empire, Maximus is praised by Emperor Marcus Aurelius (Richard Harris) and appointed as his successor. However, Marcus Aurelius dies and his son, Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix), gains power through deceitful means. When Commodus discovers that Maximus is favored and should be the successor, he orders Maximus and his family to be killed. Maximus is betrayed and enslaved. After escaping and enduring hardships, Maximus becomes a famous gladiator, seeking revenge for the death of his family and bringing justice to the empire.
