“Lampir” (2024) is an Indonesian supernatural horror film directed by Kenny Gulardi, reimagining the legendary figure of Mak Lampir—a notorious witch from Javanese folklore obsessed with eternal beauty.

The narrative centers on Wendy (Jolene Marie) and Angga (Rory Asyari), an engaged couple preparing for their wedding. They decide to conduct their pre-wedding photoshoot at a luxurious, vintage villa located on the outskirts of the city, inviting their close friends Rizky (Ge Pamungkas), Agnes (Ardina Rasti), Sheila, and Gandhi to join them for a getaway.

Upon arrival, the group is captivated by the villa’s antique charm, discovering a hidden room filled with portraits of beautiful women and various ancient artifacts. Unbeknownst to them, the villa serves as the lair of Mak Lampir, a demoness fixated on preserving her beauty through malevolent means. She possesses the ability to animate the paintings, using them as instruments to ensnare her victims. Mak Lampir becomes fixated on Wendy’s beauty, intending to claim it for herself.

As night falls, the group’s idyllic retreat transforms into a harrowing ordeal. Mak Lampir unleashes a series of terrifying events, manipulating the villa’s supernatural elements to torment the guests. One by one, they fall prey to her sinister games, each facing horrors that blur the lines between reality and nightmare. The friends must confront their deepest fears and unravel the villa’s dark history to survive the night.

“Lampir” intertwines traditional folklore with contemporary horror, delivering a chilling experience that explores themes of vanity, obsession, and the supernatural. The film’s atmospheric setting, combined with its exploration of Indonesian legends, offers audiences a unique and spine-tingling journey into the realm of the occult.
